Fort Collins, CO – On February 1, 2011, the Character In Action Recognition was presented to Bill and Bernadette Greenwood for demonstrating the Character trait of LOYALTY: “Using difficult times to demonstrate my commitment to those I serve.”
GRIT Wrestling (GRIT stands for Grace, Righteousness, Intensity, and Toughness), a program providing character education and wrestling skill training five nights a week, was started by Bill and Bernadette Greenwood in memory and honor of their son, Nicholas Greenwood who died in an unfortunate accident on May 22, 2008 at the age of six. Bill Greenwood also serves the citizens of Fort Collins as a firefighter for the Poudre Fire Authority.
Their commitment to Loyalty is expressed in serving each other and their family of four children during a difficult grieving process, in serving the citizens of Fort Collins through Bill’s profession as a firefighter, and as the founders of GRIT Wrestling.
We thank Bill, Bernadette, the coaches and participants of GRIT Wrestling for their demonstration of Character In Action and for making a lasting contribution to the Community of Character Initiative.
Character in Action Recognition acknowledges those individuals or groups of citizens in our community who have demonstrated outstanding character as it relates to an event or series of events which have positively impacted Fort Collins. Since 2009, the recognition serves as a subtle reminder of the impact that character , big and small, can have on a community.
